My First Blog

Hello Everyone,

I have taken a giant technical leap forward by creating a blog for myself! But hey, that's what college is all about, getting out of your comfort zone and embarking on new adventures.
And now a little about me. I am currently a senior Social Science Major with aspirations of graduating in May 2009. I held off taking an economics class because I was uncomfortable with the subject. I can honestly say that after four weeks in our class, I am feeling more confident about understanding economics and more importantly, about teaching economics. I have already incorporated the core concept of economics being about choices into to the high school classroom I work in at El Capitan, in Lakeside. The majority of my students are low income so making choices is an important part of their lives and their family's lives. What I want them to realize is that their everyday choices and opportunity costs is economics. I also am excited about incorporating the lesson plan using lyrics and economic concepts.
See you in class.

Reaching the students is definetly the greater goal. As for the technology, just work with it to benfit your students. As an example, I had an African Studies professor who used only slides.... it wouldn't have been bad, but, you couldn't clearly make out most of the images as age had fadded the images. Needless to say his vast knowlegde was lost in the fadded images he presented.

Have fun at El Cap and I'll see you in class!
